Optimal Scalp Health
My last rant had to do with inflammation and its effects on hair loss. Since writing it, I have added a shampoo to my regimen of hair products that is working wonders for the health of my scalp. About a year or so ago, I went to see my dermatologist about a serious case of scalp inflammation. At the time, the crown area of my scalp was flaking and prone to acne. I know, it's kind of gross, but I think the story is an important one to tell. My dermatologist suggested that it may be a staph infection of the scalp. He said I may need to take some very strong antibiotics to get rid of it.
Upon getting home, I immediately started reading everything I could find online about staph infections, and I did not like what I read. It was scary stuff. Anyway, I decided to taper off of my topical hair loss treatments for a while to see if things would improve and after several months, the infection (I'm still not certain it was staph), seemed to go away, but there was always a slight tenderness to my scalp in the vertex/crown area. I continued to have a fair amount of dandruff. This has persisted till now. I have maintained as healthy a scalp I could by using good anti-dandruff shampoos, and Revivogen has helped to reduce the excessive oiliness of my scalp, but that tenderness has always persisted...
...until last week...
Last week, I started shampooing once every other day with an anti-bacterial shampoo called Tersaseptic. The difference is night and day for me when it comes to inflammation now. I shampoo with it, leaving it in for about 5 minutes or more, then rinse. My scalp inflammation is almost totally eliminated! I say almost because there is still an ever-so-slight tenderness, but it is getting less and less.
Now, I am not suggesting that you necessarily go out and get this shampoo yourself, but if scalp inflammation seems to coexist with your androgenetic hair loss (MPB or FPB) then it may help get rid of that inflammation, and you may want to try it out. Again, the stuff is called Tersaseptic Shampoo. It's anti-bacterial so be careful not to overuse it if you decide to try it. Make sure you visit a qualified physician if you think of giving this a try.
