A Bad Hair Transplant
Last night I was driving down Granville Street in downtown Vancouver. I was lazy and just wanted to pick up a burger at McDonald's because I didn't feel like making something to eat. Yeah, I know, not the healthiest thing to do, but I don't do it often... Anyway, Granville Street is usually pretty busy on Saturday nights as it's full of night clubs. Last night is was very busy. I got stuck in traffic for a considerable amount of time. That's when I saw a convertible Porsche with a guy sitting in it that had clearly had a terrible hair transplant done.
I couldn't believe how bad it was. The poor guy was a a Norwood 7, but there was a massive visible scar on the back of his head in the donor area, and there was a tiny fringe of hair at the top of his head. This was the transplanted hair, and it formed a U-shape where his hair line would be. It looked like someone had stuck one of those fake, thick moustaches to the poor guy's head. All else was bald.
I just felt really bad for this guy because there was simply no way of covering up the fact that he had a hair transplant -- and a crappy one at that.
This made me realize how important it is to try and guage how far your hair loss will go BEFORE ever getting a hair transplant. You have to look at how much hair your father (and even mother) may have lost, along with your grandparents, aunts and uncles and siblings... All of them. Pick the worst case of hair loss from the bunch. That's how bad your own hair loss can get potentially. You need to know this if you're considering a hair transplant because otherwise you might get a transplant that looks good NOW, but looks horrible later on in your life. You have to make sure that your donor hair SUPPLY, will meet the DEMAND for hair transplantation in the future.
Be careful when considering a hair transplant. Be realistic in your expectations, and don't do something now that you'll potentially regret 5, 10, 15 or 20 years from now. Hair tranpslants can look really good when done right. The younger you are the more careful and conservative you need to be if you're considering a transplant. That's the unfortunate fact here. Don't ask for an overly low hair line because you may not have enough hair to back fill the areas that thin out later.
Trust me. You don't want to look like the poor guy I saw on Granville Street.
