Valentine’s Day

Posted on Saturday 14 February 2004

Some of you, I’m sure, did not spend Valentine’s Day with a significant other because at the moment you don’t have one. And some of you, I’m sure, think your male or female pattern hair loss is one of the main reasons you don’t have one.
Let me break the news to you.
It’s almost invariably less important than you think it is.
If you think about your hair loss a lot, then what’s really stopping you is your self-consciousness about the hair loss, not the hair loss itself. As I have said in the past, the best thing to do (if you’re a guy) is keep your hair short if you are losing it. If you are a woman, I recommend you visit HerAlopecia.com for advice and support.
If you have lost enough hair that you have very little on top, then the best thing to do is keep it as short as possible. This looks sharp. Dress well and look after yourself. Work out and try to stop thinking about your hair loss so much.
If your hair loss bothers you so much that you find yourself thinking about it all the time, use sites like this one to educate yourself about your options. Learn about Minoxidil and Finasteride and Nizoral. Learn about the other treatment options. Learn about hair transplants and hair systems. Talk to others about how they dealt with it in our forums. Set yourself realistic goals, like these. Then follow through with your plans. Stick with them for 6 months to see how you do, then reassess. For many people, the ultimate solution is to get a hair transplant. If you are considering one, make sure you do your homework. Don’t get one right away. Sit on the idea for a few months to see how you feel about it later.
Basically, the best you can do is not worry about your hair loss. But if you find that it is getting in the way of your self-esteem, and it bothers you enough, then do something about it. There are lots of options nowadays, and in the years that will follow soon, more options will become available.
Don’t let your hair loss stop you from enjoying days like Valentine’s.
