SalsphereTM Apple Extract is a controlled delivery system consisting of solid hydrophobic
submicron spheres with encapsulated Procyanidin B2, a compound identifi ed in apple
which acts as a growth-promoting active on murine hair epithelial cells. Both in-vitro and
in-vivo studies3-5 have shown that after repeated use of Procyanidin B2, an increase of
almost 80% of hair diameter and an increase in the total number of hairs was evident,
without any side effects. Procyanidin B2 is a water soluble active that can be found at
a high concentration in apple extract. Encapsulation of the extract in the hydrophobic
SalsphereTM spheres enhances the product bioavailability and effi cacy. Procyanidin B2
also acts as a potent antioxidant that protects cells against free radicals, reactive atoms
that contribute to tissue damage in the body.
