5-alpha-reductase inhibitors

1) DHT causes hair-loss (alone or not I do not know --- I say this because of all the other talks about bacteria and inflammation)
2) DHT is an androgen, synthesized primarily in the prostate gland, testes, hair follicles, and adrenal glands by the enzyme 5α-reductase

So I was checking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-alpha-re ... itor#Herbs and several herbs are listed there.
I'm curious if anyone tried any of those on their own or through the use of some shampoo or topical.

EDIT: I've also heard of topical use of dutasteride in order to block 5-a without having to suffer the side effects.
While duta is not an "experimental" treatment, this unofficial application method is.
