Hello Dr. Bauman. I was wondering if you could give me some information about trichodynia and how it may be treated/prevented. Thank you. Kirsten

The factors that influence trichodynia (scalp pain) are not well understood by the medical community. However, prevention and treatment starts with a thorough medical evaluation. When does it occur? How often? Any triggers? Associated symptoms (e.g. hair loss)? Etc...
I've seen in some trichodynia patients that there's also neck-muscle tightness associated with the pain. These patients can often benefit from massage therapy as well as a specifically-targeted laser therapy regimen.
