Moving to Propecia (Finpecia) with Rogaine
I'm a 24 year old male, and have been using 5% minoxidil rogaine for about 3 years. Initially, my hair loss speeded up and then stabilised. The results have been pretty good considering, and I have small baby hairs on my head, even on the slick M-shaped parts, but there hasn't been thick hair growing back at all which I didn't expect. I have even had hair growing down around eyebrows on my head, which I have to shave, but it is much thinner as it gets to my hairline. In the last six months my hair loss has started to accelerate as my hairs have got visibly weaker. This I expected using rogaine. My hair loss is strange in that my hair line isn't really receding (I've always had a bit of an M-shape) but where I have hair it is getting thinner, and then my hairline recedes slightly as it does. Recently I have started using Propecia (Finpecia) as a supplement, but I haven't been using it long enough to comment on the results yet (a few weeks). However, I am wondering if there is any use in continuing with the rogaine? I would like to grow some of my hair back if possible, just where it has thinned and where I have hair currently, but not necessarily on the slick frontal M-part. I'm not even hoping to lower my hairline, as I've never had a low one. Considering that I have responded reasonably well to rogaine, even without DHT treatment, would a combination of Finpecia and Rogaine give me a significantly better chance of growing some hair back thicker, where I currently have hair?
Propecia plus minoxidil (rogaine) is a powerful, proven, safe and effective treatment regimen. I always recommend combination treatment to my patients with male pattern hair loss. I would expect good results in slowing or stopping the hair loss process. Remember that regrowing hair on bald skin (like the frontal hairline area) would likely require hair transplantation. However, you may notice thicker, healthier hair in the areas that were thinning. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
