Alopecia Areata
I have a 6 yr old daughter that has been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in the last 2 months she lost at least 90% of her beautiful red locks she is using a lotion called cyclocort 0.1%. We apply it once daily at bedtime about 2 yrs ago she had a patchy occurance and we used the same thing her hair grew back in ... but this time it such a large amount of hair loss , it is all over her head not just in patches and her eyebrows and most of her eyelashes have also fallen out ..I guess my question is why so much more this time, could it be misdiagnosed ?
What other methods of treatmoent are there that we could be using ..She goes back to school starting grade 1. Will wearing bandanas or such covering her head impeed the new growth or chace of new growth ..
Thank You
worried mom
The diagnosis is consistent with alopecia areata. The dermatologist may want to administer steroid injections and add Minoxidil 5% twice daily to the regimen. Other treatments are available but this would be a good start. Please update me with your progress.
