another temporal hairline question
The propecia website says that there is insufficient evidence that propecia stops hairloss at the temples only the middle and top of your head. Will propecia stop any further hairloss at the temple area and of the frontal hairline? If so does how do we know this when the 5 year study didnt look at this?
Thank you for your answer,
Joe
Merck can only say what the studies showed, but in my experience, when taken as directed, Propecia will effectively stop the progression of hair loss in the temporal area (even the frontal hairline to some degree). As long as the follicles are still alive, they will be saved by the medication.
For example, if you have miniaturized hair (shorter, thinner, unpigmented hair) at the frontal hairline or temples before you start the medication, after six or twelve months, you can typically see this hair growing better, thicker, darker, etc. This is not uncommon. Now, if you have an aggressive or extensive hair loss problem, you may not necessarily notice this change on your own. That is why we use a microscope to track results in my office.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
