Shedding
What is the normal amount of hair that a person sheds per day? I read 50-100 hairs is the norm. I currently loose between 15-30 hairs per day. Especially when shampooing or brushing. Also on the back of the head what is the general hair pattern of hair. I understand that every person pattern is different, but I've what appears to be a cowlick or part on one side of the back of my hair( next to the center of the crown). I can remember it being this way since I was in my twenties now that I'am forty I'am concerned if this could be a indication of a balding.
Up to 200 hair shed per day can be considered normal, but the progression of hair loss is typically not related to the amount of shedding. More often a miniaturization of follicles cause more scalp to shine through before the hairs are 'dead and gone.' Cowlick/swirl patterns in the crown are normal. But again, if you are seeing more scalp than before, this is male pattern hair loss. Do you have any hair loss in your family (mother's side or father's side)? If so, you might want to seek treatment sooner than later. The earlier you seek treatment, the better.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
