Hair loss at 16

Question

My son is losing hair on the side of his head and not in the front. He does not take any medication. Nothing but shampoo and gel is applied but hair loss is apparent only on the sides. What is the reason for the hair loss?

Dear Ted, Is he losing hair on the frontal part of his head or the sides over his ear? What is the pattern of hair loss, is it receding or is he losing the hair in patches. Please respond so that I may answer your questions better.
