MSM for male pattern baldness
Is the use of MSM beneficial in treating MPB?
Questionable. The purported advantage of using MSM is to provide increased amounts of sulfur to the tissues. However, sulfur deficiency is very rarely encountered in practice.
Deficiency and toxicity: There is minimal reason for concern about either toxicity or deficiency of sulfur in the body. No clearly defined symptoms exist with either state. Sulfur deficiency is more common when foods are grown in sulfur-depleted soil, with low-protein diets, or with a lack of intestinal bacteria, though none of these seems to cause any problems in regard to sulfur functions and metabolism. There is no evidence of which I am aware, which suggests that increasing the amount of sulfur to the scalp increases hair growth or supports hair transplants.

significant continued 'improvement' after a few years, they are assuming
that the medications have reached a 'tolerance' and are no longer
'working'. All of the proven current treatments for MPB help to recruit
atrophic follicles to grow thicker hair again for approximately two,
sometimes as long as three, years. After that time, no significant
numbers of miniaturized hair follicles are recruited to mature again,
but the medications help to keep the hair in the anagen phase and/or
prevent miniaturization of the hair follicles. If you completely
discontinue the use of these medications, the hair follicles that have
been kept in anagen will switch into the telogen phase and shed within a
few months. Even worse, the follicles will miniaturize again.
