large bald spots on legs

Question

My husband and his identicl twin brother are both missing large patches of hair in their lower shins. The hair will not grow there.They are both in very good health, always have been and they both lost the hair at about the same time- around age 14. They do not have a family history of diabetes or any serious medical conditions. What could possible causes do you speculate that this this could be? My husband is to embarrassed by it to ask if other family members have the same condition.What could be the cause?

Is it a round patch of hair loss? What area of the leg is involved? Is it at a location where the clothes may be rubbing against?
