Young hair loss
Hello doctor, I have a difficult case of hair loss. I am 18 years old and had a few extremely stressful months last year. The stressful time was around February - April. Some time in July I suddenly noticed a large amount of hairs in my palms in the shower. Then I had another stressful month in September.
I went to a dermatologist in October and he diagnosed me with telogen effluvium. I did tremendous research on this and found out everything about it. I was told it should reverse itself within months. Now it is April, about 8 months after the shedding started and it hasn't stopped, although I think it has decreased very very slightly.
I think it is due to the additional stressful month that I had in September, but my hair is not recovering yet. Nobody in either side of my family tree has male pattern baldness. In addition to the stress, this is the reason I am convinced it is telogen effluvium. But how long will it take to recover?
You need to see a dermatologist whom specializes in hair loss to confirm this diagnoses. This is because normal day to day stress does not result in telogen effluvium. You need to make sure that there is no patterned hair loss with baby or minituarized hairs.
