receding hairlines
dear Alan
I am soon approaching my twenty-first birthday and as a young man i am becoming increasingly worried about my receding hairline. Something which i have had since about the age of eighteen but has become slighly worse of late. I have excepted now that i am fighting the inevitability of baldness, which will arrive sooner or later. Although i have not started to thin or bald on the crown or top of my head i believe that given all that i have read recently it is only a matter of time. However i don't want to wait until this time before i take preventative steps if indeed any actually work. In my recent research there has been little encouragement into the prevention of receding hailines only positive results for the top of the head. I would greatly appreciate it if you could offer any steps i can take now to prevent the progress of my recession?
Yours gratefully
Lee
Lee,
Do you have male pattern hair loss in your family? Have you had hair density measurements to confirm the progression of male pattern hair loss? There is no doubt that early treatment is the best treatment, however we do not want to be recommending medications or other forms of therapy if it is unnecessary. If you can send some photos to me via email, this would be very helpful in a dicsussion of the appropriate therapy for you. In many cases, young men with severe hair loss in their family might consider Propecia. Other available treatments for early male pattern hair loss include minoxidil or laser therapy. Please let me know what questions you have.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.
