Medication hair loss
Hello Doctor
I've had hair loss for about 6 months now, which I believe is from me taking accutane, since I started noticing hair loss about 3 months after stopping the medication.
I have hair loss all over my head which included the sides of my head. I have noticed new hairs growing on my hair line in the front, but I cannot see any new hairs growing anywere else. Is this normal, and when should I see new hairs starting to grow in different places.
Secondly, I still see my hair shedding at a constant rate of of about 30-40 a day for over a month now. Shouldn't my hair shedding have stopped by now?
Lastly, the hairs that fall out almost all have white roots which are usually pretty tiny. Is this consistent with temporary hair loss.
Thank you for your time, and when would you estimate that my hair will start to return to normal.
Dear Stan,
From your description it is consistent with Telogen Effluvian secondary to Accutane. It may take between 6-12 months for you to notice that most of your hair has regrown on your scalp. It may start with small areas or regrowth and spread to rest of the scalp.
