Dr B - You are the type to tell the outspoken truth What is your honest thought on revivogen and its efficacy Also the use of emu oil....... What is a good brand of alcohol free minoxidil Thanks so much

Stevey, When it comes to topical therapy, minoxidil is the hands-down winner... tons of data, years of clinical experience, etc. I don't have a lot of experience with revivogen--I'm not sure it contains any fda-approved hair-growth ingredients (like minoxidil) and there's a real lack of scientific data there. Man or woman, you've got to stick with the fda-approved treatments first--propecia+minoxidil for men, minoxidil for women. Anything else I consider more of a long-shot. Since 1999, I've been personally impressed with the results from laser therapy. Certainly NOT a miracle cure, but many patients see a significant improvement in hair quality--if they stick with the program. Some patients do better with in-office treatments, others with hand-held units. Obviously, hair transplantation is the only way to regrow new hair on bare skin. We can also move new follicles between sparse areas to improve coverage, etc. Regarding 'alcohol-free' minox, I think you mean 'propylene glycol-free' which almost completely eliminates the burning, itching and irritation commonly seen with the over-the-counter minoxidil/rogaine. Legal "PG-free" minox is available by prescription only. I work closely with a compounding pharmacist I trust here in Boca when I prescribe the pg-free minox to my patients. Each prescription is filled for each patient on an 'as needed' basis. Be careful if you order minoxidil compounds online, as much of the online stuff is made in 'bulk' batches and sits around for quite a while. Many people have said that they ordered some 'special' minoxidil over the internet--and it came with no expiration date and no warning labels, etc.! Not good!
