continuous shedding
I have been on finasteride for almost 8 months now and have seen no improvements. It seems as though my hair has got worse during the treatment. I started to have early shedding which I believed to be normal and continued the treatment but I never saw any regrowth. I heard that you should take finasteride a full year to judge its affects. I seem to be shedding at wierd times and quite frequently. I wanted to know if you will notice any growth right after the shedding and if I should stop the treatment now because it is making my hair worse.

Hello Jarchkhan and welcome to the forums.
Shedding, even excessive shedding, is a commonly reported phenomen with regards to many of the treatment options out there for hair loss, inlcuding Finasteride (Propecia/Proscar).
There are lots of theories as to why this occurs.
When you say you have not seen any improvements, do you mean that your hair looks the same now as it did 8 months ago? Does it look worse? How are you actually keeping track? Hopefully you took some pics of your hair before or relatively early on in treatment so you can make a relatively "objective" comparison.
It's important to put things into perspective. With Finasteride treatment, the goal should always be to maintain existing hair, rather than regrowth. Even if you can SLOW your hair loss you're better off.
As for whether you can expect regrowth after shedding, typically yes. Hair grows in a cyclical manner with phases of growth, shedding, and resting. If you're on fin. the lost hair should start regrowing again after a resting phase. This all depends on the extent and type of hair loss that you have as well.
I personally believe that if you're not experiencing any side-effects from Finasteride, you should continue to use it as you'll be better off than if you stopped completely. I am not a doctor however, so you should consult an actual physician.
Don't fret over the shedding as this is common place and will occur on and off even with treatment after many months.
If you're not already taking pictures to track your hair loss, I recommend doing so starting now.
