Lees Pharm and Panacea-Biotec

Post by Tricia »

Have they in-licensed the same thing (tb4??) from the NIH? Lees Pharm lists their hair growth product launch for 2005. I contacted them for a revised timeline, but did not receive a response.

Here's the 2003 press release for Lees Pharm
2003.06.19 -- Lee's Pharmaceutical and NIH US entered...

Lees Pharmaceutical and NIH US entered into license agreement
on a proprietary technology for promoting of hair growth

(Hong Kong, 19 June 2003) Lees Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited (GEM Stock: 8221; Website: http://www.leespharm.com), a research-driven and market-oriented biopharmaceutical group engaged in the development, manufacturing and sales of quality biopharmaceutical products in the Peoples Republic of China, is pleased to announce that the Group has just entered into an exclusive license agreement with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States for the development and commercialization of a proprietary technology titled the methods and compositions for the promotion of hair growth utilizing actin-binding peptides for the territories of Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Hair loss is of concern to a larger number of men and women and it affects their quality of life. On many individuals, hair loss could cause low self-esteem or even depression. In PRC, about 30% of the population loses hair density by age over 20, in which male population captures a large proportion. About 40% of men by age 40 and over 50% of men by age 50 are either bald or having balding pattern, and it is a fact that men begin to bald by the time they reach 17 years old. Although there are countless therapies and concoctions to battle the effects of receding hairlines, none of these are universally effective, and many have met with, at best, dubious success. There are still unmet demands for safer and more effective products. According to statistics, the current market size of PRC is estimated around USD100 million......

Here's the 2005 Panacea-Biotec press release (again)......
Panacea in-licenses technology from NIH for hair growth

New Delhi August 10, 2005

Delhi-based pharma and biotech company Panacea Biotec today said it had in-licensed a peptide-based technology for alopecia (hair loss) management from the National Institute of Health, USA.

The technology, which is patent protected, stimulates hair growth and regenerates lost hair follicles, the company said in a statement.

"The patented technology from NIH provides the basis for development of safe and effective treatment for hair loss, which is a huge problem worldwide," Panacea Biotec Ltd joint managing director, Rajesh Jain said.

Panacea Biotec will undertake further development of the technology and the company is initiating the pre-clinical toxicology studies for which the appropriate formulation has already been prepared, it said.

After receiving the necessary regulatory approvals for the toxicology data that will be generated, the company will undertake human clinical trials for the product, the release said.

Okay, I'll make a logical leap and answer my own question. It is the same thing (tb4) with Lees Pharm having the license for China and Panacea-Biotec for the rest of the world. However, it appears that Lees Pharm is ahead of the game because their website talks about launching it.

Link to license agreement......

If they do sell it in China first, then I will make a new Chinese friend and get them to send me some. How's that for wishful thinking  ?

I thought TB4 was supposed to be somewhat unstable and had to be kept at very low temperatures to remain effective. Am I completely off-base here?

Nope..you're right Sam. In fact those who ordered the stuff to try out..had to freeze it etc. Just one reason why I thought it was a waste of money and time to experiment with it.

I sort of looked into this cold storage thing. I found that people who ordered "PS1" were supposed to keep the stuff in a freezer. I didn't go looking too hard for Tb4.

I'm guessing the Lees Pharm and Panacea-Biotec Tb4 does not have to be kept in cold storage. Lees Pharm states that their product is a gel.

The only info I found from Regenerx is that Tb4 is cheap and easy to make.

If anyone bought a counterfeit drug from a chemist they found on the internet, I'm sure there would be something fishy about the product to explain why the thing didn't work in the first place. "Oh, you didn't keep it cold enough" etc.... That's a scam designed to make the purchaser feel as if he did something wrong, when the product wasn't legit to begin with.

You're probably right about not having to have Lee's etc TB4 stored in the same way. Possibly refrigerated...but as they keep telling everybody, they're still working on the stability issue..and other issues.

that's the nature of working with peptides like ps1 and tb4. they ARE unstable and degrade rapidly in a solution, that is WHY they need to be kept in freezer until prior to use.

that's why these guys leespharm are working on stability issues, they know the average consumer isnt going to want to store it in the freezer, etc.

When TB4 was first being talked about a couple of years ago, I recall that a group of people were trying it out in secret. Do any of you know what the results were from that private trial? Anyone report significant results?

If the results aren't better than what the existing treatments provide it will probably join the ranks of all of the second-tier types of treatments like copper-peptides and such--nice to have as a part of your regimen, but not the core of the regimen.

Does anyone have a link that talks about the stability issues? In an article or press release? I haven't seen anything on it, except in hair loss forums.
